Something For Everyone At Easter 26 March 2007

It’s time to spring into Easter on the Isle of Man and enjoy a whole host of events taking place to make this Easter egg-stra special.

For lots of family fun the Wildlife Park is open for the season from Saturday 31 March, 10am until 6pm. This year the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria has selected ‘Madagascar’ as the focus of its conservation campaign. Species at the Park, originating from the comedy cartoon, include four lemurs and over the Easter weekend the park is holding a ‘Find a Lemur’ competition.

The Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre Complex, boasting the 1,360 seat Royal Hall, Broadway cinema and children’s play area ‘The Dragon’s Castle’ is open for business. The Broadway cinema will be showing ‘Madagascar’ and The Isle of Man Art Society will be displaying their Easter exhibition featuring work by local artists.

The successful Easter Festival of Plays will be staged at The Gaiety Theatre, from 7 April until 14 April, where seven teams from the UK and Scotland will be competing for the FM Cubbon Trophy and various other prizes.

Visitors and residents alike can experience the historic Isle of Man Steam Railway and the Manx Electric Railway which are both re-opening for the summer season with trains operating daily from Monday 2 April.

The National Sports Centre is open for family fun sessions in the leisure pool throughout the holiday and a full programme is available from the main reception. If you’re looking for some great entertainment and action, the Isle of Man Karate Federation are staging their Easter Festival at the Centre for two days, 7 and 8 April, doors open at 10 am.

The Easter Athletics Festival continues again from 6 April until 8 April with an action-packed programme of events scheduled throughout the Island at various venues. The 31 mile Manx Mountain Marathon, from Ramsey to Port Erin, is the longest solo single day fell race in the British Isles and will take place on 7 April.

Tourism Minister Adrian Earnshaw said:

‘The Department of Tourism and Leisure has a full programme and wide range of exciting events planned for the holiday. Let’s hope the weather is kind and everyone has a great time.’

Finally, it may be the last chance for youngsters to get out and about during the school break by using their FREE Stormbreaker trail map and explore the locations in the blockbuster film. Children are invited to go on their own secret mission around the Island, like Alex Rider in the film, to crack the clues to eight questions featured on the map for a chance to win one of six Nintendo DS and Stormbreaker games. Six runners up will also receive exclusive Stormbreaker goody bags. The competition closes on 30 April and maps are available from the Visitor Information Centre at the Sea Terminal.

As well as these special Easter activities the Island contains a wealth of things to see and do throughout the whole year. For more information on attractions, activities and events call in at the Visitor Information Centre in the Sea Terminal, where the friendly team will be only too pleased to help you, or go online to
