TT Fan supports Helicopter Fund through Heritage Donation 12 April 2007

Dedicated TT supporter Alan Reed, of Walton on Thames in Surrey, has been able to help not one but two worthy causes in the run up to this year’s event.

Alan Reed's original helmetMr Reed offered to sell his items of TT memorabilia, which include the original helmet he wore whilst visiting the Island on his bike, to Manx National Heritage. He now plans to donate the proceeds from the sale to the helicopter fund.

Matthew Richardson, Curator of Social History for Manx National Heritage commented:

‘Staying the Course’, our TT Centenary Exhibition celebrates the people who have made the TT, including the riders, marshals, manufacturers and spectators. We were particularly keen to acquire some artefacts which illustrate the part the supporters have played in making the TT what it is. Mr Reed has been coming to the TT since the fifties, and his original helmet, still covered with stickers, is quite something & makes a valuable contribution to the exhibition!”

Alan plans to come to the Island for what will be his 54th TT, and intends to come to the museum to see the display.

‘Staying the Course’, Manx National Heritage’s 100th anniversary TT exhibition, runs from 26th May 2007 to 15th September 2007 and will feature historic motorbikes, leathers, trophies and memorabilia from riders, mechanics and fans of the TT.
