Manx archer aims for European title 18 July 2007

Manx Wheelchair archer, Rusty Kneale Barrow is aiming to make her mark on Europe in her bid for the 2007 European Archery Grand Prix title.

The Grand Prix takes place from July 18-23 in Stoke Mandeville. Rusty, who is a member of the Isle of Man archery club and trains with the British squad, is very excited to be entering this year’s competition:

‘It is just a great achievement for me. I have worked hard to get here and I am so glad that I will get the chance to represent Britain in such a prestigious event.’

However, the road to the competition has not been easy. Entry fees, travel cost, coaching etc don’t come cheap. However, determined to get to the championships, Rusty rustled up a team of bag packers that have helped her to raise the funds:

‘They were great! They were at Shoprite on Chester Road Douglas on Saturday July 7 and in Port Erin the following Saturday. I was blown away by the amount we raised, £1,498 over the two Saturdays!
I am so grateful to them for all their hard work. I would also like to thank Shoprite for all their co-operation as well as their customers for their generous donations. I wouldn’t have been able to go to the competition if it wasn’t for the help I received, I really do appreciate it.’

Rusty, who lives in St John’s, is also training hard for the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing and has already started to collect funds for her trip.
