Invitations to take part in an informal consultation following the review of the work permit legislation and its administration 10 August 2007

Minister for Trade & Industry, Hon David Cretney MHK is seeking views on key points raised following the work permit review, and would welcome written responses from interested parties in relation to those matters to which the Minister shall have regard, namely:-

  • Making permits transferable between employers as long as the field of work remains the same as when the permit was granted ;
  • Allowing individuals to apply for a work permit in a particular sector before applying for a given post in that sector;
  • Aligning a secondary permit issued under Section 3a to that of the primary permit holder in terms of expiry date;
  • Reviewing the exemption categories to ensure the categories listed are relevant and clearly defined.

Responses are to be received on or before 14th September 2007.
