Park Going MADd for Madagascar 20 August 2007

On Saturday and Sunday 25th and 26th August the Curraghs Wildlife Park will be holding the last of its fund-raising weekends for the EAZA Madagascar Campaign. Thanks to the Friends of the Curraghs Wildlife park £1000 has already been sent to the campaign in response to an emergency appeal to deal with the aftermath of devastating cyclones and floods.

Over the weekend, there will be plenty for all the family, ranging from slide talks in the schoolroom, guided walks around the Madagascan animals in the collection and a stall selling cuddly lemurs and other Madagascan souvenirs. There will be quizzes and competitions, a Punch and Judy and we also hope to have a talk from someone who has spent time in Madagascar as a volunteer, to tell us about her experiences in this fascinating country.

Nick Pinder, General Manager of the Curraghs Wildlife Park, commented;

“MADd also stands for Make A Difference Day and the Wildlife Park hopes that their visitors can really help make a difference to the lives of some of the Malagasy people and the wildlife with which they share they country.”

Zoos throughout Europe, the majority of them like the Wildlife Park members of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria, are raising funds for the Madagascar Campaign which has a target of 350,000. Previous campaigns have included Save The Rhinos which raised in excess of 600,000 for rhino conservation in Africa and Europe and the Shellshock campaign to help conserve threatened tortoises and turtles.
