Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital development continues 26 September 2007

Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital is continuing its development programme with plans to improve the main entrance to the front of the hospital.

The new entrance has been designed to make best use of the space available to patients and visitors. Plans include provision for a larger hospital access area, which will assist wheelchair users and improve accessibility for other people with a disability. The proposed interior layout will also provide a more stable temperature within the hospital waiting areas and surrounding departments. In addition, the proposed entrance and interior layout will assist staff with visibility and security issues.

The Department is delighted that the Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital Welfare Trustees have kindly agreed to fund the improvements. Derek Crellin, Secretary and Treasurer of the Welfare Trustees said,

“The Welfare Trustees are pleased to fund this scheme which we think will improve the appearance of the Hospital when approaching the front entrance. We realise that the Hospital is unable to fund this at the present time and the Trustees are in the happy position of being able to help. The Trustees are grateful to the public of the north of the island for continually donating to the Welfare Fund thus enabling us to finance projects such as this.”

Brian Pressley Hospital Manager said,

“I am pleased that during the hospital’s centenary year alterations to the main entrance of the hospital are being considered. The proposed improvements will ensure that Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital can continue to meet the needs of both patients and visitors whilst reflecting the Department’s commitment to providing patient services in Ramsey. I would like to offer sincere thanks to the Welfare Trustees for their generosity in funding this project within their contributions to our 100 year celebrations."

The planning application has been submitted and if granted, tenders will be sought for the construction works.
