Rally Isle of Man named best in British Isles 19 December 2007 Rally Isle of Man 2007 has been named as the best rally in the entire British Isles. The July event scooped the honour from the sports most important weekly UK publication, Motorsport News, which is known as ‘The Voice of British Motorsport’. In their end of year review of rallying throughout the British Isles, the publication, which is based in London, compiled their list of the top ten events. In placing Rally Isle of Man as the very best, they add that it is, ‘the closest you can get to a WRC (World Rally Championship)-style event without actually lining up alongside Loeb (Sebastien – reigning world champion).’ The article goes on to describe the islands premier four-wheeled motorsport event as, ‘a three-day epic through the tight Manx lanes where the British and Irish championship regulars compete side by side.’ Event organisers were delighted to hear the news. ‘Motorsport News have journalists and reporters at almost every rally that takes place, year-long, so to be named as the best is a major accolade’, says Richard Bargery, Event Director. ‘Everybody connected to the event can share our pride. From the Isle of Man Government, particularly the Department of Tourism and Leisure and Department of Highways, to our sponsors, TOTAL (Isle of Man), Conister Trust and Star Services, and through to all our many volunteers without whom we couldn’t run our event. When you add this to the plaudits received from this years’ winner Eugene Donnelly and the widely experienced runner-up Eamonn Boland, both of whom publicly praised the organisation of the rally, it is wonderful news on which to enter a new year.’ Incorporating the Isle of Man International Rally (formerly the Manx International Rally), as well as the Historic, Stars and Trophy Rally’s, over 150 teams from across the world travelled to the island. In 2008 Rally Isle of Man will once again be a pivotal round of both the Tesco 99 Octane British Rally Championship and the Global Group Irish Tarmac Championship, as well as each of the principle historic championships, bringing the very best drivers to the island. The runner-up in the Motorsport News poll was Bournemouth’s Rallye Sunseeker.
