Careers 2008 open to all 5 February 2008

MEMBERS of the public are invited to attend Careers 2008 this Thursday (February 7) at the Villa Marina, Douglas.

Fifty exhibitors will man 60 stands, showcasing learning and employment opportunities in the Isle of Man and beyond.

Nearly 1,000 secondary school students, plus many from the Isle of Man College, will attend on organised visits but the opening hours - 9am-7.30pm - have been tailored to suit those at work during the daytime plus parents who might like to return with their sons and daughters in the evening.

The Department of Education, which organises the event, has joined forced with the Department of Trade and Industry's Sector Skills groups, and there will be representation from engineering, ICT, finance and construction companies.

Public sector opportunities and careers in law, the media, the Church, the Armed Forces, the emergency services, jobs available overseas and courses in further and higher education will also be shown off.

The Department of Education will have advisers on hand to chat to visitors about careers in teaching. The Careers Service will be showcasing its new computerised job-matching service. And the engineering sector will stage a 20-minute presentation in the Cinema, running hourly between 9.45am and 5.45pm, entitled 'Engineering the Future', which all those interested in a career in engineering are encouraged to attend.

Admission to the event is free and a free programme is also available to those attending.
