The final programme of speakers has been announced for the second “Discover Diving” conference, to be held at the Manx Museum on Saturday 1st March.

Both the natural and cultural heritage of the underwater world will be discussed, with talks on the marine environment of the Isle of Man, how you can get involved and even a special presentation on diving one of the most famous shipwrecks of all – the Titanic.

“The range of topics to be covered at this year’s Dive Conference is fantastic. We have talks from Chris Woods, National Seasearch Co-ordinator about the project through which divers can become involved in local conservation work and so help raise awareness of marine biodiversity, John Galpin will be discussing cetaceans in Manx waters and the locally-formed Manx Sea Matters group will be discussing aggregate dredging.
For those whose interest is in the human side of heritage, Dave Copley will be explaining how to identify different parts of a shipwreck, Adrian Corkill will talk about the quest for the wreck of the Vivid and Sean O’Connell will explore the aspects of diving the Titanic. I’ll be giving a short talk on the role of MNH in maritime matters and Steve Cowley will discuss diving around the Isle of Man.”

Support for the event has come from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry which has enabled the National Seasearch Co-ordinator to attend, MNH in providing the venue and from Discover Diving in putting together a programme of talks that should be of interest to divers and non-divers alike.

The event will start at 10.30am and finish at 4.30pm, with visitors welcome throughout the day. The conference is open to all those with an interest in maritime heritage and admission is free.
