Laser Treatment for Cosmetic Purposes - Check for 'Certificate of Registration' 18 February 2008

The Department of Health and Social Security is advising the public that any independent clinic or establishment operating laser products for cosmetic purposes, is required to be registered.

Sue Wadsworth, Registrations and Inspections Unit Manager said,

“Due to the increase in the number of aesthetic and beauty clinics on the Island that are advertising laser treatment for cosmetic purposes, the Department of Health and Social Security has a duty to advise the public that any such clinic must display a ‘Certificate of Registration’. Prior to receiving any treatment, persons are strongly recommended to ensure that establishments have obtained the certificate.”

The ‘Certificate of Registration’ is issued by the Department of Health and Social Security under the Nursing and Residential Homes Act 1988. The ‘Certificate of Registration’ is signed and dated by the Department of Health and Social Security Registrations and Inspections Unit Manager and the certificate is issued to establishments when all relevant checks have been undertaken. Establishments should only commence laser treatments from the date stated on the certificate.

Should further information in respect of the above, or a list of registered clinics be required, please contact the Registrations and Inspections Unit by telephoning 642422.
