Lady Haddacks visits school exhibition 8 May 2008

Lady Haddacks paid a visit to Willaston Primary School on Wednesday.

She was there to tour the school’s mini-exhibition on the history of the school and the estate it lies at the heart of.

Putting the exhibition together tested pupils’ skills in literacy, history, geography, maths and ICT. Willaston exhibition one

Lady Haddacks, wife of Lieutenant Governor His Excellency Sir Paul Haddacks, spent an hour and a half at the school and was shown around by pupil Joe Murphy, seven, who wrote to invite her.

Pupils even got look inside the Government House car with its famous registration Man 1!

Education Minister Anne Craine MHK was also invited for the visit, as were Douglas North MHKs Bill Henderson and John Houghton. Mr Henderson is also a Member of the Department of Education. The VIPs enjoyed tea and delicious scones made by Abbie Convertini and Isla Thomas, both seven.

Year 3 teacher David Neill said Lady Haddacks commented on the lovely atmosphere within the school and on how polite the pupils were.

The exhibition was busy all afternoon with parents popping in. Many of the old photos and newspaper cuttings on show had been kept by headteachers over the years.

One mystery remains, however. The school would love to establish the whereabouts of the silver key used by Mr Qualtrough when he opened the school back in 1955.
