Bands graduate from Soundcheck Music Project 17 May 2008

FOUR local bands are to 'graduate' from the Department of Education's Soundcheck Music Project this Tuesday (May 20).

Soundcheck offers musicians aged 13+ rehearsal and recording facilities, the chance to play at gigs and other events and access to instruction and advice. It meets every Tuesday night at Douglas Youth Centre, Kensington Road, Douglas.

Young musicians who are involved with Souncheck have had an exciting year so far, playing regular gigs billed as the Soundcheck Promenade Sessions at the Villa Marina. The next gig will be in October.

Four of the bands - Stone Creation, The Charismatics, The Black Monday Suicides and Depthcharge - will formally 'graduate' from the scheme on Tuesday and will receive certificates. A social evening will celebrate their achievements.

Youth and Community Worker Caroline Walter said:

'We are very busy at Soundcheck, with more bands than we have space for to rehearse on a Tuesday evening. If anyone can let me know of venues where they can get together I would be grateful. To this end we have a waiting list and any young musicians 14-18 who are interested in coming along can contact me if they wish to be added to this list and contacted when a place becomes available. Unfortunately we can't accept any new members who turn up on the night.'

She added:

'If there are any musicians or technical wizards who are interested in working with enthusiastic young people, are available on a Tuesday from 6.30-10pm and would be interested in getting involved with the project, I look forward to hearing from them.'

Caroline Walter can be reached on 615946.
