Changes to Departmental Memberships 30 May 2008

CHIEF Minister Tony Brown MHK has announced a number of changes to the political memberships of Government Departments following the recent Legislative Council elections.

David Callister MLC, who was elected to the Legislative Council succeeding Mrs Pamela Crowe, is appointed to the Department of Trade and Industry and to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

Alan Crowe MLC moves from the Department of Transport to replace Mrs Crowe as the Member for Health in the Department of Health and Social Security.

Juan Turner MLC joins the Department of Transport while retaining his membership of the Department of Trade and Industry.

Malew and Santon MHK Graham Cregeen moves from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry to become an additional member at the Department of Education and at the Department of Tourism and Leisure.

The above Departmental membership appointments are a Governor in Council function - ie appointed by the Lieutenant Governor on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers – and take immediate effect.

The Council of Ministers is also proposing new Statutory Board chairmanships, subject to approval at the June sitting of Tynwald.

Rushen MHK Quintin Gill – who is leaving the Department of Trade and Industry but retaining his membership of the Department of Tourism and Leisure – is proposed for the currently vacant chairmanship of the Manx Electricity Authority.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson is proposed to succeed Mr Gill as chairman of the Office of Fair Trading (while retaining his current membership of the Department of Education).

Alan Crowe MLC is proposed to succeed Mrs Crowe as chairman of the Post Office in addition to his new role at the DHSS.
