Deputy Director of Education post advertised 26 June 2008

THE post of Deputy Director of Education is being advertised by the Department of Education.

The current Deputy Director, Margaret Galloway, is retiring after four years with the Department and a long and distinguished career in education.

Her successor will support the Director of Education, John Cain, in ensuring the delivery of an effective and efficient education service of high quality to the people of the Isle of Man through the provision of vision, strategic planning, leadership and the maintenance of school working relationships.

Candidates must have a minimum of 20 years’ experience in education, with at least 5 years as headteacher of a school or in senior management with a local education authority. Detailed understanding of and familiarity with all educational issues at primary, secondary, higher and further levels is also required.

The deadline for applications is Thursday 10 July 2008.

Mrs Galloway joined the Department in 2004 as Senior Adviser, leading a team of seven advisers in the Education Improvement Service in providing support to schools. In June 2005 she was promoted to the role of Deputy Director and had responsibility for the EIS, the Special Needs and Psychology Service and the Youth Service.

Among her notable achievements with the Department were her involvement in organising the biennial Leadership Conference that took place in 2006, her development of the Department’s Healthy Futures programme in conjunction with colleagues from across Government and her leadership of the working party formulating the school self-review and evaluation scheme.
