Future Roadshow open to the public this week 1 July 2008

THE Manx Telecomputer Bus – a familiar sight on the Island’s roads as it travels between schools – is throwing open its doors to the public this week.

The Department of Education’s single-decker bus, which is equipped with 23 of the latest Apple iMac computers, is used to teach ICT skills to primary school pupils all over the Island.

This week and next week the public is being offered a rare look inside. Computer Bus in Peel

Today (Tuesday) the bus was parked in East Quay, Peel, where among visitors was retired headteacher Eddie Leece, 90 (pictured with pupils from Peel Clothworkers' School). Tomorrow (Wednesday) it moves on to Market Square, Ramsey, and on Thursday The Promenade, Port Erin. Opening hours on both days are 10am-3pm.

The public will be able to see primary pupils from local schools undertaking 3D modelling, sound and video recording and editing in connection with the Radio Skeet and Tell Me projects, music creation, digital photography and much more.

The bus will be inviting the public aboard on Tynwald Day at St John’s from 9am and will be at Harris Promenade, Douglas, on Tuesday 8 July from 10am-3pm . Its final stop will be at the Royal Manx Agricultural Show, Sulby, on Friday 8 August and Saturday 9 August from 10am-3pm.
