Public-private delegations fly Isle of Man flag at key international events 2 October 2008

Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. David Cretney MHK, has applauded the success of two DTI-led Isle of Man delegations at recent high-profile international events which promoted the Isle of Man as a base for successful business, and showcased the continued growth and diversification of the Island’s economy.

Representatives from the Government’s e-Gaming division and a host of Isle of Man- based service providers attended the EiG Expo in Barcelona last week. The event is the world’s biggest conference for decision makers in the e-gaming industry and was attended by more than 1500 delegates from over 60 countries. EiG offered a prime opportunity for the Island’s representatives to communicate the Island’s strong proposition to the e-Gaming sector. Attendance at previous EIG events has led to a number of companies deciding to relocate to the Isle of Man and the initial signs are that this year’s event has again created strong interest in the Isle of Man.

The Isle of Man also gave a strong showing at the Monaco Yacht Show held last week with the Minister in attendance for one of the three days, and the many benefits for commercial yacht and private jet owners of the Island’s highly regarded Shipping Register and Aircraft Register were highlighted.

Commenting on the strong delegation of Department officials and Isle of Man business leaders at both events, Minister Cretney stressed the close, progressive and supportive relationships which the DTI has forged with fast-growing businesses and entrepreneurs based on the Island.

The Minister commented,

“We have developed a clear and compelling story, under our Freedom to Flourish banner, to attract the right types of businesses and individuals to the Isle of Man. Events like these present the opportunity to articulate this story face-to-face with our target audiences, and having private business partners in our delegation really helped to illustrate our points. I congratulate them on their initiative, drive and enthusiasm to work with Government for the good of the Isle of Man.”
