School raises further funds for Uganda 27 November 2008

HIGH school students are hoping that raising more money for a project in Uganda will prove as simple as ABC.

St Ninian's High School students and staff raised more than £45,000 during the academinc year 2006/2007 for the construction of a brand new primary school in Kiwumu.Snhs Kiwumu

The work was completed through the charity Abaana and a group of 11 sixth form students, accompanied by two members of staff, visited the school in summer 2007 and assisted in painting and preparation work for the New Foundation School.

Teacher in charge of the project Kristina Crawford explained:

'The sixth form have committed to maintaining a link with the school. They hope to raise some money every year in order to continue the work at the New Foundation School. This year, a Letter Quiz has been prepared. The 75 clues all have solutions that are two words, both starting with the same letter. For example “Sound a bell makes” = Ding Dong or “ Frank Richards’ greedy schoolboy” = Billy Bunter.
'The charge for a copy of the quiz is £1 and sixth form students have each been asked to sell five copies to friends and relatives. Additional copies are available from both Upper and Lower School Offices and will also be on sale at forthcoming school events.'

Miss Crawford added:

'The funds raised through the letter quiz will go towards building a boarding house for students who would otherwise live too far from the school to attend regularly.'
