Gearing up for TT 2009 13 May 2009

Isle of Man Post Office is moving up a gear in preparation for TT 2009 and notably Honda’s 50 years of world championship racing (1959-2009).

To celebrate this historic milestone, Isle of Man Post Office has issued set of stamps featuring some of the best TT riders who have ridden for Honda over its 50-year span at the Isle of Man TT Races. In conjunction, the Isle of Man Treasury is issuing a 50p coin featuring 14 times TT winner John McGuinness.

To mark the release, Isle of Man Post Office Chairman Alan Crowe MLC and Alex Downie MLC, a Member of Treasury with responsibility for coins, joined together to exchange stamps and coins at the TT Grandstand.

Alan Crowe MLC said:

“The Isle of Man Post Office is delighted to be celebrating this significant milestone in Honda’s long association with the TT which undoubtedly has contributed to some of the most memorable racing highlights in its history. In this new set of stamps, we salute the riders and machinery that have truly stamped Honda’s name to the world of motorcycling on the Isle of Man.”

Alex Downie MLC said:

“The new Honda 50p coin, which we chose to tie in with the 50th anniversary, features John McGuinness and will be in general circulation during TT fortnight. We think it will be very popular with fans and a great keepsake from TT 2009.”

Isle of Man Post Office will also be issuing an exclusive limited edition Honda Stamp and Coin Folder which TT fans and Island residents will be able to buy during TT fortnight and thereafter.
