Boredom buster discovery trails launch this summer! 11 August 2009

A family visit to the Laxey Wheel.Manx National Heritage has launched two new discovery trails this week aimed at 5-11 year olds. The trails, launched to coincide with the summer holidays, add fun and discovery to visits to the Laxey Wheel and to the Rushen Abbey Interpretive Centre in Ballasalla.

Howard Parkin, Public Services Manager for Manx National Heritage, said:

“Children following the Laxey Wheel Discovery Trail will be transported into the world of the Laxey miners who worked in the shadow of the wheel. Through completing the trail they will also discover how the wheel works and its crucial role in the Island’s mining industry. At Rushen Abbey, children can uncover the curiosities of the lives of the monks of the Abbey’s past and meet some of its more recent occupants!”

Every child who completes a trail will receive a heritage voucher giving them FREE admission to another Story of Mann attraction, as well as a special sticker and a picture to colour in.

The Laxey Wheel and Rushen Abbey Interpretive Centre are open daily 10am to 5pm until the end of October. For further information on Manx National Heritage attractions, events and exhibitions please visit www.storyofmann.com or pick up a free ‘What’s On’ and ‘Story of Mann’ leaflet from all Story of Mann attractions.
