Isle Of Man Dive Conference 2010 12 March 2010

If you’re interested in shipwrecks, turtles and modern sonar technology, then the 2010 Isle of Man Dive Conference could be for you. At the Manx Museum in Douglas on Saturday 20th March, ten speakers will explore a range of topics with a marine theme.

Amongst others, Laura Hanley from DAFF will be discussing the evidence for turtles in the Irish Sea, Sean O’Connell will be talking about his time as a diver with the Garda in Northern Ireland, Adrian Corkill will show how accessible sonar technology can help identify shipwrecks and Trevor Norton will be talking about his own diving history.

Curator of Archaeology for Manx National Heritage, Allison Fox said; “Manx National Heritage is pleased to be able to support the Dive Conference. As ever, the event covers a great variety of topics, from the hobby of diving itself, to the natural and cultural heritage of the sea around our Island.”
Conference Organiser, Michelle Heywood of “Discover Diving” said; “The variety of subjects to be covered at the conference reflects the diversity not only of the nature of the Irish Sea, but also shows the huge amount of information that divers can provide about the environment. It’s not just about what happens under the water though. Events on the surface can have wide-reaching effects and there’ll be a chance to hear about the marine nature reserve project and fisheries initiatives too. We’re hoping that everyone with an interest in the sea will come along and listen to what will be some fascinating talks”. “We’re hoping that everyone with an interest in the sea will come along and listen to what will be some fascinating talks”.

People wanting to attend can go to as many or as few of the talks on the day as they wish. The provisional programme can be found in the What’s On section at . Admission is free.
