Walk and Talk returns to the NSC 2 July 2010

The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure’s Walk and Talk exercise programme has recently returned to the National Sports Centre athletic track. The popular activity has been held at a number of venues during the last 12 months including Nobles Park.

The walkers are enjoying the newly resurfaced 400 metre NSC track at the original home of Walk and Talk, which is now 10 years old. The track offers a safe environment and the new surface is kind on ankle and knee joints. During the last decade thousands of laps have been completed by walkers of all ages and abilities, and more importantly lots of talking has taken place and new friendships struck.

Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure explained:

“Walk and Talk offers the community an opportunity to undertake a healthy activity in the safe and pleasant environment that the NSC offers. Walking is a great way to improve fitness and all the talking makes those miles pass a lot quicker.”

Sport Development Officer Gianni Epifani highlighted:

“Three sessions a week take place at the NSC, however, if you live outside of Douglas there are sessions in Ramsey, Peel and Castletown, and as always the routes are flat, and the emphasis is on walking at your own pace and lots of talking.”

All walk and talk sessions cost £1.50, which includes refreshments. Two instructors are present at each session. Records are kept of miles completed and there are incentives for reaching milestones i.e. 10 miles, 100miles etc.
