Department of Social Care Open Day recently held at Brunswick Gardens 22 August 2011

The Department of Social Care held a very successful open day in early August at its Brunswick Gardens facility in Douglas which is one of the Mental Health Service’s community resources.

The site is owned by Brunswick Gardens Limited which is in turn owned by some of the residents of the areas surrounding Brunswick Gardens. The site is leased to the Department of Social Care.

Service users can participate in a variety of gardening and woodwork projects. This resource provides a supportive environment where clients can learn new skills or develop existing skills. Participation in the projects can promote recovery, improve independence and help people feel part of their community. This year’s open day was well attended by local residents, service users, staff and trustees of the Ballamona Association for Mental Health, a local charity which generously funded refreshments.
