Northern Community Meeting fast approaching 25 January 2013

RESIDENTS in the north of the Island will have an opportunity to engage with Government Ministers on issues of national importance at a community meeting next week.

The Council of Ministers is continuing its programme of public engagement with an event at Scoill Ree Gorree in Ramsey on Wednesday, January 30. Chief Minister Allan Bell MHK will once again chair proceedings and says he is looking forward to another open and honest exchange of views.

This is the fourth in a series of regional meetings and will follow a similar format to successful events held in Douglas, Peel and Port Erin. As well as using the roving microphones to ask a question during the open Q&A session, members of the audience in Ramsey will have the option of putting a written question to Ministers. Forms will be available which can be completed and placed in a box at the side of the main platform.

The Chief Minister said:

‘The community meeting at Scoill Ree Gorree is now less than a week away and I expect there will be some robust discussions. These events are a key part of my promise to promote open and transparent Government and to work with the public in the best interests of the Isle of Man. They are extremely valuable in terms of communicating directly with local people and we take on board the ideas, comments and concerns that are voiced. We have also listened to feedback about the format of previous community meetings and have introduced the option of submitting questions in writing. Some people have said they are reluctant to speak in front of a large audience, but would still like to put their question to a Minister. This change will hopefully give everybody the opportunity to participate in what promises to be another lively evening.’

Mr Bell will open the meeting and Treasury Minister Eddie Teare MHK will give an update on Government’s financial rebalancing strategy before the floor is opened to the public. The community meeting at Scoill Ree Gorree will start at 7.30pm on Wednesday, January 30, with doors open from 7pm.

The event is free and open to all members of the public. There is a limit on the number of people the venue can accommodate and seats will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. No bookings will be taken.
