UK Information Commissioner tackles nuisance calls 20 March 2013

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has served a monetary penalty of £90,000 to DM Design Bedrooms Ltd, a company that has blighted the public with thousands of unwanted marketing calls. Further details can be found in the ICO's press release which can be found by following this link.

The ICO took action against DM Design Bedrooms Ltd under the UK's Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. The Isle of Man has similar legislation, the Unsolicited Communications Regulations 2005, and the Data Protection Supervisor is responsible for the enforcement of the Regulations. The Regulations impose similar obligations on the senders of electronic direct marketing and senders must ensure they comply with these requirements and with the Data Protection Act 2002.

A guidance note on complying with the Unsolicited Communications Regulations 2005 is available below or on the website.
