Electoral Register Changes 26 January 2004

The compilation of the Electoral Register, or Voters' List, for 2004/5 is about to commence. The Registration of Electors Regulations 2003 now enables the production of two versions of the register. Full registers for each constituency will be available for public scrutiny and for a number of specified uses by authorised organisations. Edited registers will also be available for unrestricted use by any person or organisation.

An explanatory letter will be included with the registration forms that will be posted to every residential address on the Island during February. The forms will show the details of every person currently registered at that address. An additional column has been provided on the form giving the opportunity for any person to have his or her details excluded from the edited version of the register. Any amendments, additions or deletions should be made and the form returned using the enclosed pre-paid address label.

It has become common practice for certain credit reference agencies to refer to the Voters' List to confirm the details of persons applying for loans, mortgages etc. and failure to register now may result in applications being refused in the coming year. Registered credit reference agencies will have access to the full register.

Anyone with a query or who does not receive a form should contact the Voters' Section by phone on 685749 or by writing to the Registration Officer, Economic Affairs Division, Illiam Dhone House, 2 Circular Road, Douglas. If anyone would prefer to call in person to the Office the staff will be happy to assist in any way they can.
