Treasure Hunt Winner 27 September 2004

Julie Rimmer completed the 150th anniversary treasure trail in August with her husband Robert and children Katy, 11, and Andrew, eight. She wins a first class ferry crossing courtesy of Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.

Mrs Rimmer was delighted with the prize. She said:

"I used to live on the Island when I was little, first in Castletown, then Ramsey when my father, Alan Scoltock, worked for the Coastguard. I left aged 10 in 1974 and this was the first time I had visited with my family. We had such a brilliant time that we had already planned to return next August, so this is a wonderful surprise. I have never won anything before."

The Steam Packet contributed 150 prizes worth more than £7,000 for the competition to mark the 150th anniversary of the Laxey Wheel. Steam Packet Communications Manager Geoff Corkish selected a total of 150 winners in a ceremony at the wheel today - the actual anniversary - witnessed by Steve Rodan MHK, chairman of Laxey and Lonan Heritage Trust, staff of the Department of Tourism and Leisure, who devised the competition, and Manx National Heritage.

Geoff Corkish commented:

"The Steam Packet was delighted to sponsor the competition and pleased that hundreds of people entered throughout the summer months, many of them our customers. In fact with the Company approaching its 175th anniversary next year, we have been bringing visitors to the Isle of Man since before the Laxey Wheel was built! Like the Laxey Wheel we are very much a part of the Island's heritage."

A further 149 visitors and residents have won a return foot passenger crossing in the competition. All will be informed by letter this week, and the full list of winners will appear on the Department of Tourism's website www.visitisleofman.com from next week.

Entrants had to complete a treasure hunt around Laxey to discover the name of the Wheel's designer and the correct answer was (Robert) CASEMENT.
