The Tynwald Mills have existed for more then a hundred years. Once a thriving weaving industry, the mills hit decline and almost disappeared completely. They survived by renting out space for storage and specialised manufacturing. The Mills found new life as the island began to attract a more affluent crowd with the finance sector. The price of retail space in the towns went up and there was a lack of parking. The Tynwald Mills took their opportunity to redevelop the site to create a retail centre. Now holding over 20 shops the mills also can accommodate parking for 500 vehicles. Shoppers will find a variety of outlets offering everything from clothing, local crafts, and specialised beauty products to toys and pet supplies. There are two cafes to pick from, as well as a picnic area and playground.
