Island on TV 1 March 2004

The Isle of Man is set to gain plenty of TV coverage during the next few months.

BBC 'Flog It' presented by Paul Martin will offer a free antiques valuation on Saturday 17 April at King William's College, Castletown. The BBC crew is one of five UK television crews who will be filming on the Island assisted by the Department of Tourism and Leisure.

Tourism Minister David Cretney explained:

"I am delighted that BBC 'Flog It' decided to film on the Isle of Man and I'm sure they will receive a great welcome from everyone.

"I'm also happy to welcome two crews who are making programmes for Border Television this month. The first is 'Streetwise' - a six part series, one of which will explore the 24 hour life of Castle Street in Peel. The other is 'Tell Me How' - also one of a six part series, featuring several items, one of which is the Manx Electric Railway and how to drive an electric tram.

"Granada Television are on the Island at the moment shooting 'Poor Little Rich Girl' - a lifestyle programme exchanging the every day life of a wealthy teenager with a local girl who lives on a farm in the Isle of Man, and French TV 'Voyage' channel are here for two weeks making a documentary. We look forward to seeing some of these programmes on our screens later this year."

Facilitating TV trips is part of the Tourism PR strategy which encourages many media visits to the Isle of Man every year with the aim of raising the Island's profile as a holiday destination. The Island recently received excellent coverage in a Japanese book entitled 'Travelling by Train' written by Kan Sakurai, well known in his country as a travel writer. Many more press visits by UK and international journalists are planned for this year.
