Company Tax Returns and the New Year Holidays 19 December 2008 The deadline for sending company tax returns to the Income Tax Division of Treasury is 12 months and one day from the end of the companys accounting period (the due date). The company is liable to a £250 penalty if its return has not been sent in by the due date. Many companies have 31 December year ends and so for their 2007 accounting period the tax return due date is 1 January 2009. The Income Tax Division will be closed on 1 and 2 January 2009 and, if a company has a due date for its tax return falling on one of these days we are extending the deadline until midnight on 5 January 2009, which means that no penalty will be charged if the new deadline is met. The extended deadline applies to the submission of returns by post, hand or via Online Tax Services. You can register for online services here.
