Financial Sanctions: Al-Qaida 31 October 2011

This news release is issued in respect of the restrictive measures directed against certain persons and entities associated with the Al-Qaida network.

The European Commission has amended Annex I to Council Regulation (EC) No 881/2002 ("the 2002 Regulation") with effect from 28 October 2011. Annex I to the 2002 Regulation lists the persons, groups and entities covered by the freezing of funds and economic resources under that Regulation. The amendment reflects the decision made on 17 October 2011 by the United Nations Sanctions Committee established pursuant to resolution 1267 (1999) to remove one individual from the UN Al-Qaida list.

The individual removed from Annex I is therefore no longer subject to the asset freeze imposed by the 2002 Regulation.
