Unemployment Rises 11 November 2003 At the end of October the jobless total stood at 329, an unemployment rate of
0.8% of theeconomically active population.
Of the total unemployed, 228 were males and 101 were females. These figures
include 30 persons who required work
permits and 24 who were signing on for
National Insurance credits only.
During the month 148 claimants signed on the register and 120 signed off, giving
a net increase of 28 on the figure for September.
The number of vacancies notified to the Job Centre rose to 367 in October from
318 in September and was also slightly up on last year's comparable figure of
352. The number of vacancies held on file at the end of the month (622) was
also up on both September's figure (566) and last year's figure for October
(593).
