Slight Increase in Unemployment 11 August 2004 At the end of July unemployment stood at 351 a rate of 0.9% of the economically
active population. The increase in the unemployment figure (of 36) is typical
for July.
During the month 149 claimants signed on the register and 113 signed off. Of the
total unemployed, 241 are males and 110 are females. These figures include 28
persons who require work permits and
32 who were signing on for National
Insurance credits only.
A total of 334 jobs were notified to the Job Centre during the month and 704
jobs were held on file at the end of the month, 236 more than last year's July
figure.
