Isle of Man TV Advert Nominated For Award 12 March 2009

The Department of Tourism and Leisure is delighted to announce that it has been short-listed in the production budget category of the 2009 Travel Marketing Awards for one of its recent television adverts featuring Isle of Man resident Keirron Tastagh.

Recognising marketing excellence in the travel industry, this brand new award ceremony, organised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Travel Industry Group (CIMTIG), replaces the long-established and highly prestigious Travel Advertising Awards, which have run for over 30 years. These awards are judged on campaign strategy, creativity and execution as well as return on investment among a number of other scoring criteria.

Hon Martyn Quayle MHK, Minister for Tourism and Leisure, Keirron Tastagh and representatives from the Department’s advertising agency Truly Communications will be attending the Awards ceremony to be held at The Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London, on Monday 16 March, where the winners will be announced.

The Department has recently commissioned three television commercials as part of its major advertising campaign and the advertisements have been screened on various television channels this year. Three different adverts have been shown nationally focussing on adventure, lifestyle and nature to reflect all the Island has to offer in outdoor activities. Local residents are the stars in the commercials, namely Keirron Tastagh for adventure, the Anderson family for nature and Keith Shawcross for lifestyle.

Hon Martyn Quayle MHK, Minister for Tourism and Leisure, said:

‘It is a great honour and I am indeed delighted that the Department of Tourism and Leisure has been nominated for a top award in the Travel Marketing Awards 2009. We will most certainly be keeping our fingers crossed for first place on Monday evening!

‘Being shortlisted for this prestigious award will without a doubt raise the Isle of Man’s profile further and I wish to place on record my thanks to the Tourism Division’s team and Truly Communications for all their hard work in preparing and producing the advertisements as well as the local residents who starred in them.’

A survey, compiled by Travel Tracker, found that spontaneous awareness of Isle of Man advertising increased from 25% to 63% with one in five respondents indicating they would choose to visit the Isle of Man above any of the other islands surrounding the British Isles after seeing the advertising
