Industrial action announced 26 August 2009

Disruption to mail services across the United Kingdom can be expected towards the end of this week and over the bank holiday as the Communication Workers Union (CWU) announces further strike action in Royal Mail.

On Thursday (August 27) workers in the UK national distribution network will take action which may have some effect on deliveries on Thursday and Friday throughout the UK. However contingency plans are in place to try and minimise the disruption.

Mail posted from the Island to various parts of London on Thursday and Friday (August 28) will suffer delivery delays due to industrial action at various processing, delivery and collection centres.

A number of delivery offices are staging industrial action on Saturday (August 29). Deliveries in the following areas are liable to be affected: London, Ipswich, Leamington Spa, Middlesbrough, Bognor Regis and Newport. Customers should also be aware that this disruption will extend after the bank holiday to deliveries on Tuesday (September 1) in the Ipswich and Teesside areas.

Isle of Man Post Office would like to advise its customers that it will be forwarding all mail as normal to the affected areas throughout the industrial action but customers should expect some delays to standard mail reaching its destination. Customers should note the industrial action will not affect the Special Delivery next-day guaranteed service from the Isle of Man. Contingency plans are in place to get these delivered as normal throughout the affected areas.

Isle of Man Post Office would like to confirm that its employees are not involved in this industrial action and apologises for these events which are outside of its control.

Any customers who would like more detailed information or have any queries can contact Isle of Man Post Office’s Customer Services Team on 664664.
